Shipping Policy
Overview
Euchelan ships original artworks, prints, and editions across South Africa and to select international destinations. Every work is dispatched personally from the studio, packed with care appropriate to the medium and size of the piece. This policy sets out how shipping works, what to expect, and where responsibilities lie between Euchelan, the courier, and the buyer.
1. Where We Ship
South Africa: All provinces, including major metros and outlying areas. Delivery to remote regions may incur additional fees, calculated at checkout or quoted directly.
International: Select destinations, available at checkout. If your country is not listed, email [bert@euchelan.com] before ordering — we will quote shipping on a case-by-case basis where it is feasible to do so.
2. Processing Time
Orders are processed within 3–14 business days from the date of payment confirmation. Original works may require additional preparation time for proper packaging, varnish curing (where applicable), and signing of the certificate of authenticity.
For larger originals, commissioned works, or orders placed during peak periods (festive season, exhibition windows), processing may extend. Buyers will be notified by email if their order falls into this category.
Processing time is separate from shipping transit time.
3. Packaging
Every work is packed by the studio to a museum-grade standard appropriate to the piece:
- Smaller and unstretched works are rolled in archival tubes with acid-free interleaving, sealed against moisture, and labelled with handling instructions.
- Stretched canvases and larger originals are flat-packed in custom crating or rigid board enclosures, corner-protected, wrapped in glassine and bubble, and sealed for transit.
- Prints and editions are flat-packed between rigid boards or rolled in tubes depending on size, with archival sleeving.
The packaging method is determined by the studio based on what best protects the work. If a buyer has a specific preference (for example, requesting a rolled original to simplify international customs), this can be discussed before dispatch but is at the artist's discretion.
4. Couriers
Euchelan partners with established national and international couriers, selected on a per-order basis to provide the best combination of safety, speed, and cost for the destination and parcel size. The studio reserves the right to choose the courier and service level for each shipment.
All shipments are tracked. A tracking number and courier details are emailed to the buyer at the point of dispatch.
5. Shipping Rates
Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on destination, parcel size, weight, and declared value. Free shipping applies above a set order threshold; orders below the threshold are charged a flat or calculated rate displayed at checkout before payment.
For high-value originals, the studio may require shipping insurance (included in the quoted rate) and/or a signature on delivery. This is non-negotiable and is for the protection of both buyer and seller.
6. Estimated Delivery Times
The following are estimates from the date of dispatch, not the date of order:
| Region | Estimated Transit |
|---|---|
| South Africa — major metros | 2–5 business days |
| South Africa — outlying areas | 5–10 business days |
| Africa (cross-border) | 7–14 business days |
| Europe / UK | 7–14 business days |
| North America | 10–18 business days |
| Asia / Pacific / Rest of World | 14–21 business days |
These are courier estimates, not guarantees. Customs inspections, public holidays, weather events, and courier backlogs can extend delivery times. Euchelan is not responsible for delays caused by third parties.
7. Customs, Duties & Import Taxes (International Orders)
International buyers are fully responsible for any customs duties, import taxes, VAT, brokerage fees, or other charges levied by the destination country. These charges are not included in the purchase price or shipping fee, and are not collected by Euchelan.
Import charges are determined by the destination country's customs authority and are payable by the recipient before the parcel is released for delivery. Euchelan cannot estimate these charges in advance — buyers should consult their local customs authority before purchasing if cost certainty is needed.
Refusal to pay customs charges does not entitle the buyer to a refund. If a parcel is returned to the studio because the buyer declined to pay duties, return shipping costs and any other associated fees will be deducted from any refund considered, in line with the Refund Policy.
Euchelan declares all international shipments at their true commercial value. Requests to mark shipments as "gift" or to under-declare value will be declined.
8. Risk and Title
Risk in the artwork passes to the buyer upon delivery to the courier. From this point, the work is in transit under the courier's care and insurance. In the event of damage in transit, the procedure set out in the Refund Policy applies.
Title in the artwork passes to the buyer once full payment has been received and the work has been delivered.
9. Delivery, Address Accuracy & Failed Deliveries
Buyers are responsible for providing a complete, accurate, and reachable shipping address at checkout. Euchelan dispatches to the address as entered. The studio cannot be held responsible for non-delivery, delays, or losses arising from incorrect or incomplete address information.
If a delivery is attempted and fails — due to nobody being available to sign, the address being incorrect, or the buyer being unreachable — the courier will follow its standard procedure (re-attempt, hold at depot, or return to sender). Any fees arising from re-delivery, redirection, or return are the buyer's responsibility.
If a parcel is returned to the studio as undeliverable through no fault of Euchelan, the buyer may request re-shipment by paying a new shipping fee. The original order will not be cancelled or refunded.
10. Lost or Delayed Parcels
If a parcel exceeds the upper end of the estimated transit window, contact [bert@euchelan.com] with your order number. The studio will open an investigation with the courier. Courier investigations typically take 7–14 business days.
A parcel is only considered "lost" once formally declared so by the courier following investigation. Until that point, it is considered "delayed." The studio will not issue refunds or replacements for delayed parcels that are still active in the courier's system.
If a parcel is formally declared lost, the procedure set out in the Refund Policy applies.
11. Local Collection
Studio collection is available by appointment for buyers in the immediate region (Gauteng). Email [bert@euchelan] before placing an order if you wish to arrange collection in lieu of shipping. Shipping fees will be waived where collection is arranged in advance.
